Long before the Marietas Islands were on anyone's list, he spent a short session out there. It came back with four frames of Playa Escondida, the hidden beach.
The photographs traveled on their own: around the internet first, then into magazines in China, Japan and Europe, and into books from National Geographic, Lonely Planet and Larousse.
